There will be a touch of sadness about Vienna CC’s next friendly vs United Nations CC this coming weekend in Seebarn (on 24 April), with the match being played for the Brian Lewis Trophy, named after United Nations CC’s founder and President, who recently died after a lengthy illness aged 70. United Nations CC are, after Vienna Cricket Club, Austria’s oldest continuously existing cricket club, with Brian having been a founder of the club.
It is entirely fitting that the friendly match should be played between the two clubs to commemorate the contribution of Brian to cricket in Austria – he was a proponent of fairness and enjoying the game and a strong believer that there should always be the opportunity for friendly cricket to be played. Vienna Cricket Club is pleased to remember Brian in this way – we hope that the weather gods smile kindly on proceedings and hope for a friendly, fun and enjoyable game to honour the contribution Brian made to cricket in Austria.
